Biography

Dr. Karst is a pediatric psychologist within the MACC Fund Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. In this role, he serves as the primary psychologist in the hematology program, working with both the comprehensive Sickle Cell Disease program and Versiti Blood Center of Wisconsin. Dr. Karst also sees patients and families within the Oncology and Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT Program). In addition, he teaches a graduate course in Childhood Psychopathology at Marquette University each fall.

Research Interests

Dr. Karst’s research interests include neurocognitive and academic functioning in pediatric Sickle Cell Disease and better understanding psychosocial factors including trauma that can impact academic functioning. He is also interested in understanding the impact of pediatric cancer and blood disorders on parents and caregivers. Dr. Karst is also a member of the Collaborative for Resilience and Emotional Wellness Science (CREWS), a transdisciplinary, multi-institutional research collaborative that works to understand, promote, and improve the social-emotional well-being of patients, families, and providers in complex and critical pediatric health conditions.
