Biography

I am an anatomic- and neuro-pathologist with a clinical and research interest in pediatric skeletal muscle disorders. Our clinical laboratories provide expert technical and diagnostic services on skeletal muscle and nerve biopsies. Our research laboratory focuses on studying the pathogenesis and treatment of genetic muscle disorders affecting children, including X-linked myotubular myopathy, nemaline myopathy, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Current projects in the lab are predominantly focused on the development and translation of gene therapy for X-linked myotubular myopathy (with Audentes Therapeutics) and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (with Solid Biosciences), while also assessing disease processes and other therapeutic strategies in animal models of nemaline myopathy. Our lab also houses the Congenital Muscle Disease Tissue Repository (CMD-TR) which banks and distributes tissue from patients with muscle disorders to improve the pace of human research studies in this field.
